From 2017 to 2024, the Nahmanides Jewish Center and Synagogue was housed in "La Canonja," a medieval palace that had been converted into a theater. However, in August 2024, the Center relocated to a new and iconic location: the "Rabbi's Courtyard." According to historical research, this courtyard was the residence and yeshiva of Rabbi Isaac "Sagui Nahor" or Rabbi Isaac the Blind (1160-1235), son of the renowned medieval French Talmudist, the Raavad - Rabbi Abraham Ben David, from Posquières (present-day Vauvert). Rabbi Isaac the Blind was a teacher of Rabbis Azriel and Yaakob of Girona, who in turn instructed our revered Rabbi Moshe Ben Nahman, the Nahmanides (1194-1270).
Our new space is located in the historic Call Jueu of Girona, and our synagogue is the only one officially active within a medieval Jewish quarter in the entire Iberian Peninsula. With a capacity of 50 worshippers, our synagogue adheres to the standards of Orthodox Judaism. The "Heijal" was donated by Rabbi Dovid Liebersohn, of the Chabad Lubavitch Community of Barcelona, and the Torah Scroll is a gift from Mr. Shimon Aminov. Our community is under the spiritual guidance and kashrut of the rabbis of Barcelona, R. Dovid Liebersohn (director of Chabad Barcelona) and R. Meir Bar-Hen (Chief Rabbi of Barcelona and Catalonia).
It also has a small office where we prepare the kidushim for Shabbat and other parties.
It also has three dining rooms or multipurpose rooms, as well as a Jewish library room.
The Jewish community of Girona was formally established in 2017, thanks to the efforts of our principal benefactor, Mr. Shimon Aminov.
The synagogue offers the services of the following Tefilot:
SHABATOT, YAMIM NORAIM and SHALOSH REGALIM ( PESSACH, SHABUOT, SUCCOT), PURIM and HANUKKAH.
